Samaritan House Service

On the first Wednesday of every month, members from all Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) divisions across Colorado come together in a powerful display of unity and charity at the Samaritan House on Lawrence Street in downtown Denver. These volunteers gather with a shared purpose: to live out the core Hibernian motto of “Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity.” By combining forces, the statewide members provide essential hands-on support to one of Denver’s most vital shelters, assisting with everything from preparing and serving hot, nutritious meals to organizing supplies for hundreds of residents experiencing homelessness.

This monthly collaborative effort does more than just streamline the shelter’s evening operations; it builds a strong sense of community and camaraderie that spans across regional boundaries. For the volunteers, standing side-by-side in the Samaritan House kitchen creates a unique space where long-time members and new recruits from different cities can connect, share stories, and reinforce their shared cultural and charitable heritage. The predictable, recurring schedule ensures a steady, reliable presence that the shelter staff can count on, transforming a routine monthly service project into a cornerstone tradition of collective Hibernian outreach in Colorado.
